Santos condemn Remo president over Neymar slur and refereeing claims | OneFootball

Santos have condemned comments by Remo president Tonhão about Neymar and suggestions of refereeing favouritism after securing a Copa do Brasil quarter-final place. The club said in a statement that sporting criticism is legitimate, but personal attacks and unfounded accusations cross the line of respect and ethics.

Santos won 1-0 at the Mangueirão, Rony scoring from a Neymar assist, after a 0-0 first leg at Vila Belmiro. Remo had defender Marllon sent off in the first half for a foul on Caballero, and with a player fewer they adopted a more defensive approach.

After full time, Neymar became involved in a row in the tunnel, trading taunts with home supporters, players and officials. He shouted that this was Santos and that Remo were out, among other provocations.

Tonhão reacted strongly, criticising the forward and making personal attacks in response to the incident.

Remo later used social media to question decisions by referee Anderson Daronco and the video assistant. The club focused on Marllon’s dismissal and also voiced dissatisfaction with VAR.
