Santos council to resume statute vote on Monday amid SAF push | OneFootball

Conselho Deliberativo do Santos will reconvene on Monday to resume voting on amendments to the club’s statute, with SAF provisions a key focus.

According to Diario Do Peixe, meetings had been halted since eight June after president Fernando Akaoui accepted lawyer Rodrigo Monteiro de Castro’s suggestion to await progress of Projeto de Lei 2978/23, which updates rules on Sociedades Anônimas do Futebol (SAFs).

Earlier sessions were tense amid supporter protests, and opposition councillors managed to block two contentious changes, extending the membership requirement to vote from three to five years and demanding three terms as a councillor to stand for president.

At the last meeting, Akaoui said articles already approved would stand, and an external legal opinion hired by the club found the SAF-related clauses to be in line with the new law.

The meeting follows a presentation by SDC Sports to the council, with any Santos SAF proposal contingent on statute changes. President Marcelo Teixeira said approval is needed to advance talks, noted the executive board’s cautious approach, and that councillors were briefed on the group’s profile, investment model and investors. He added it is for the council to vote so that, if that is the will of councillors and the membership, a move to SAF could or could not happen.

Monday’s sitting is not expected to clear all outstanding articles, with two further dates already scheduled. Any text passed by the council would still require ratification at a members’ assembly.
