The Santos supporter who spat at Mirassol's Reinaldo during a Campeonato Brasileiro match at Vila Belmiro last weekend may be barred from stadiums for up to three years.

According to Globo.com, the man, a Santos club member, was identified through facial recognition and broadcast footage. His statement was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Reinaldo gave evidence to police on Monday. The case is being handled by Drade (Delegacia de Repressão e Análise aos Delitos de Intolerância Esportiva).

The request for a ban will be made within the inquiry, for a judge to consider imposing it as a precautionary measure, as set out in the Lei Geral do Esporte.

The incident could also bring sanctions for Santos. The club has been charged by the STJD (Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva) prosecutor and will be judged on Thursday. Possible penalties include a fine and loss of home ground.
