Santos have long been defined by prolific forwards, and their all-time list is headed emphatically by Pelé.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the club’s top five scorers are Pelé 1091, Pepe 403, Coutinho 368, Toninho Guerreiro 279 and Feitiço 214.

Pelé burst through as a teenager, won Libertadores and world titles with Santos, and scored by every method. His conditioning supported remarkable longevity despite punishing travel, uneven pitches and scant protection from officials.

Renowned for a ferocious shot, Pepe formed a devastating partnership with Pelé. He allied pace, power and precision, and stayed prolific through heavy schedules of friendlies and tournaments.

Technically gifted and in tune with Pelé, Coutinho linked play cleverly as well as finishing. His movement underpinned a fast, fluid attack that overwhelmed domestic and international opponents.

In the 1960s, Toninho Guerreiro was a ruthless penalty-box striker with sharp positioning and composure in big games. His strike rate remains among the club’s highest.

From the 1920s and 1930s, Feitiço was a classic centre-forward who helped forge Santos’ competitive identity in São Paulo football. His knack for decisive goals made him an early idol.

Their legacy still frames expectations around Vila Belmiro. Currently in the Copa Sudamericana, the team features Neymar, and much of the hope for improvement rests on him.
