Santos have been hit with a new Fifa transfer ban that blocks them from registering players. According to Globo.com, the sanction already appears on the governing body's official website.

The punishment relates to an unpaid debt to Arouca of Portugal from the signing of defender João Basso. As a result, midfielder Christian Oliva has not been registered and no other recruit can be listed from Thursday.

In January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, upheld a Fifa ruling against the club. From that date, Santos had 45 days to pay just over 2.56 million euros, about R$ 15.3 million at current rates, to Arouca, which did not happen.

Santos have not yet commented. Inside the club, officials are trying to resolve the matter and believed the amount could be settled by the 26th.

The timing of the registration block was therefore met with surprise.
