Santos have opened direct talks with Michael’s representatives in an effort to speed up a potential agreement with Flamengo after recent results increased internal pressure for reinforcements.
The Flamengo forward has become Santos’ priority in recent weeks. According to Diario Do Peixe, an initial loan proposal, with Santos paying part of his wages, was rejected by Flamengo.
Discussions then moved to a permanent deal, with the player prepared to accept reduced terms. There is alignment on contractual aspects with Michael, but a financial dispute between him and Flamengo remains the main hurdle.
Michael is seeking roughly R$ 2 million in signing-on monies dating from 2024, when he rejoined under Rodolfo Landim. He arrived as a free agent and received about R$ 28.8 million in signing-on fees, and has since had limited opportunities in the squad while awaiting settlement.
During talks, Flamengo proposed Santos cover half of the outstanding sum, an idea Santos rejected. The player’s camp has now committed to seek a resolution directly with Flamengo, with Santos not assuming any portion of that debt.
Despite progress with the player, Santos are proceeding cautiously given the deal’s complexity and lingering uncertainties. The club has tabled a three-year contract with sporting and financial triggers that could add a fourth year, with wages around R$ 1 million a month.
