According to Globo.com, Santos remain active in the market for 2026, prioritising a midfield addition after signing forward Moisés from Fortaleza.
The club face financial and persuasion hurdles despite having Neymar and Gabigol in the squad, and they sit outside the Paulistão qualification places.
Mirassol midfielder José Aldo was close to joining but stopped short of committing, so Santos ended talks.
Even if they miss the state cut, the calendar still includes the Copa do Brasil and the Sudamericana, plus the Brasileirão, which began with defeats to São Paulo and Chapecoense.
Moisés adds to an attack recently boosted by ex-Atlético man Rony, with the focus now on a more physical holding midfielder to handle the schedule and act as a tactical pillar.
At the back, attention also turns to two roles, centre-back, with Alexis Duarte effectively out of the plans despite no move yet, and left-back, where Vini Lira and Escobar are the current options.
Those positions are not priorities, but the board are on alert to improve depth and give Juan Pablo Vojvoda more options in a testing spell.
