According to Diario Do Peixe, Botafogo, Santos’ next opponents in the Brasileirão, have also been hit with a transfer ban. Santos remain under sanction as well.

FIFA penalised Santos over an unpaid instalment to Monaco on the 2023 signing of midfielder Jean Lucas. Botafogo’s ban, applied a day earlier, relates to money owed to Junior Barranquilla for attacking midfielder Jordan Barrera.

Both clubs are barred from registering players for three transfer windows, or until the debts are cleared. Santos must pay 2,032,876.71 euros, about R$ 12.1 million, while Botafogo owe 4 million dollars, about R$ 22.2 million.

The meeting is scheduled for 16, Thursday, at 19:30 at Nilton Santos, in round 19 of Série A. It is a direct clash in the table, with Santos on 21 points in 15th and Botafogo on 22 in 12th.

It will be the final match of the first half of the campaign and marks Santos’ return to competitive action after the calendar pause.

Coach Cuca will be without forward Gabriel Barbosa, suspended after being sent off for an obscene gesture against Vitória. Right back Igor Vinicius is still in physical transition after a toe fracture healed, and his recovery is being monitored.

The staff have a friendly against União São João on Saturday and are in their second week of mid-season training.
