Santos, under Juan Pablo Vojvoda, visit Chapecoense at Arena Condá on Wednesday at 20:00 in the opening round of the Brasileirão, aiming to halt a run of winless opening fixtures and to claim their first away victory of the season.

Diario Do Peixe notes the context of their recent opening-day record.

Their last opening-day win came in 2019, a 2-1 success away to Grêmio at the Arena do Grêmio in Porto Alegre under Jorge Sampaoli, with Felipe Jonatan and Eduardo Sasha on target.

Since then the sequence reads 2020, 1-1 with Red Bull Bragantino, 2021, a 3-0 defeat to Bahia, 2022, 0-0 at Fluminense, and 2023, a 1-0 loss to Grêmio.

They competed in Série B in 2024, then in 2025 were beaten 2-1 by Vasco at São Januário after the hosts came from behind.

Across the last 15 opening matches, results also include draws with Internacional, Flamengo, Bahia and Sport, defeats to Atlético-MG and Fluminense, and a 2-0 win over Ceará in 2018 at the Pacaembu.
