According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos are interested in signing Atlético-MG midfielder Alexsander. The board are moving to pay Monaco to lift a FIFA transfer ban to enable the signing of right-back Gastón Martinera.
Alexsander was not in the squad for Atlético-MG's 3-0 win over Grêmio at Arena MRV in the 23rd round of the Brasileirão on Sunday.
Before the game, CEO Pedro Daniel declined to name any clubs. He said there had been enquiries and talks but nothing agreed or formalised, and denied receiving a 5 million euros, R$ 30 million, offer.
Head coach Cuca has made requests for reinforcements. Santos previously tried to sign midfielder Newton, but that move fell through before the transfer ban.
Alexsander is under contract until the end of 2029 and has lost his place under Eduardo Domínguez.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, he is 22 and came through Madureira and Fluminense. He debuted for Fluminense in 2022, stayed until 2024, then joined Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia before signing for Atlético-MG in July last year.
