Conmebol confirmed the Copa Sudamericana play-off first leg between Universidad Central and Santos on 21 July, 21:30 Brasília time, has been moved from Caracas to Valencia, 175 km away.

The switch follows concern after a recent earthquake in Venezuela, and at one stage there was the possibility of moving the tie to another country. Instead, only the host city has changed.

The match will now be staged at Misael Delgado Stadium. No specific reason was given for the venue change, although flights to Caracas had already been rerouted to Valencia, which may have helped shape the decision.

The second leg is on 28 July at Vila Belmiro. The winners progress to the round of 16.

Santos also expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan population in the wake of the tragedy caused by the strong earthquakes.
