According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos are trying to extend left-back Escobar’s contract but negotiations have stalled. His deal runs to the end of December, so he can already sign a pre-contract elsewhere and leave on a free.

Both club and player want to continue, but financial instability has made his camp cautious. Representatives feel football chief Alexandre Mattos is working to meet obligations and support the squad, yet they still do not see a positive outcome.

The cash squeeze affects other players and sales are planned to raise funds. The window runs from 20 July to 11 September. Inside the club there is an expectation of renewing Escobar and bringing in another left-back after reserve Vinicius Lira suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Cover options include Rafa Gonzaga from the under-20s, with the possibility of improvising defenders Luan Peres and Ananias or even attacker Barreal at left-back.

Escobar, 29, joined in 2024 in a move that saw Fortaleza take Felipe Jonatan. In his first season he recorded one goal and two assists in 33 appearances. In 2025 he featured in 42 official matches with one assist, plus two friendlies.

This year he has 25 outings, split as 12 in the Brasileiro with an assist against Remo, seven in the Paulistão, four in the Sul-Americana and two in the Copa do Brasil, taking him to 102 games for Santos and one goal.
