According to Globo.com, Santos have agreed to pay R$ 17.3m to Zé Rafael following his contract termination at the end of July, with payments running until 2032. He will receive the sum in 48 instalments under an amicable deal that avoids the courts.
Each instalment is R$ 361,300.77, for a total of R$ 17,342,436.96. Zé Rafael, 33, had a deal to December next year and was due about R$ 34.8m in salaries, image rights and fees, but waived some sums to settle. The club’s liabilities to the end of his deal comprised R$ 13.2m in image rights, R$ 11.6m in salary, R$ 4.7m in labour charges, R$ 3.7m in intermediation and R$ 1.4m in signing-on.
His salary was among the squad’s highest, and Santos also moved to clear past arrears, including months of unpaid image rights.
He is currently with Alverca in Portugal. This season he played 12 matches and scored one goal, having been signed to start but falling short of expectations.
Tiquinho Soares and right-back Mayke left around the same time, but both have gone to court and there is no agreement yet. João Basso, Tomás Rincón and Bilal Brahimi ended their deals earlier in the season without legal action.
