Santos are closing in on the signing of Philippe Coutinho, who is due for a medical on Friday ahead of a three-month contract.
According to Globo.com, the 34-year-old will fly in the morning on an NR Sports plane, the Neymar family company that opened talks over the move.
Santos want him working as soon as possible so he can be ready quickly. He has kept in shape since leaving Vasco, but has not played since 14 February, when he featured against Volta Redonda in the Campeonato Carioca.
A week later he terminated his contract with the Rio club to focus on mental health, and pressure from Vasco supporters contributed to the early split.
Since then he has taken a break while maintaining fitness, training with the ball and through individual physical work. Neymar recommended Coutinho to the board, as he did Arthur, who also agreed a short deal. With support from Neymar’s company, Santos overturned a transfer ban and resumed signings, adding Rodinei, Lima and Everton Cebolinha.
