Santos returned to work on Monday at CT Rei Pelé, using the World Cup break to service their training pitches.
According to Globo.com, the club applied the same programme as at Vila Belmiro, overseeding the surfaces with ryegrass suited to winter conditions. The grass offers high germination rates and tolerance to milder climates.
Work also included replanting worn areas and correcting minor level irregularities caused by boot studs, improving surface drainage and ensuring a smooth roll of the ball.
CT Rei Pelé has three pitches. Fields two and three are natural grass and underwent the process. Field one is synthetic and received Fifa certification in March.
The complex is used by the academy and the women’s team for training, and it also stages youth matches. The timing of the work coincided with the players’ holiday weeks.
