West Ham midfielder Sarah Brasero believes West Ham are eager to put things right against Brighton in Wednesday’s League Cup tie.
The Hammers are pointless in the Women’s Super League after their opening five games this season.
Rehanne Skinner’s side next face Brighton in the Women’s League Cup, after losing 4-1 to the Seagulls in the WSL last month.
West Ham made a positive start to their Women’s League Cup group with a 5-1 victory over Charlton.
They are ahead of Brighton in their group, after the Seagulls beat Portsmouth 2-0.
Brasero, who joined the club during the summer transfer window, spoke to the club’s website ahead of Wednesday night’s game.
West Ham midfielder Sarah Brasero said West Ham ‘want to show a reaction’ after their poor form in the WSL.
The Hammers lost their fifth successive game in the WSL on Sunday, in a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
“Everybody’s really excited for the game,” she said. “We want to show a reaction to the previous games, so everyone will be up for it to show what we’re actually able to do. Naturally, we all know we can do so much better.
“Brighton are a good team that we’ve played before, so we want to show them that we can beat them this time. The whole squad wants to show something positive in the game.”
Brasero said that the 5-1 win over Charlton last time out in the League Cup ‘shows the quality’ the Hammers have.
“It (the match against Charlton) was a really good match to show my game and I think even the players that came on had a really big impact. Having five different goalscorers against Charlton shows the quality we have.”
Brasero is also determined to provide more goals and assists, after scoring her first against Charlton.
She said: “I want to get goals and assists, so it was good to get the goal against Charlton to help the team win, and score my first goal for the club. I want to carry that on. Every time I get an opportunity, I just want to score and help the team win.”
West Ham started the season with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on the opening day of the season, after an 86th-minute penalty from Bethany England.
However, the Hammers fell apart defensively in heavy defeats to Arsenal, Brighton and Chelsea.
West Ham then suffered a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa despite having more shots during the match.
The Hammers are struggling for goals with just two goals scored and 16 conceded over their first five matches.
Only Liverpool (1) have scored fewer, but the Reds have also played one game less, due to their postponed game with Aston Villa.
