Real Sociedad have unveiled new signings Mamadou Sarr and Héctor Fort at Anoeta, and both say they are ready to face Celta there on Thursday.
According to Diario Vasco, the French centre-back and the Catalan right-back were introduced on Monday alongside president Jokin Aperribay and director of football Erik Bretos.
Sarr said joining La Real felt straightforward, calling the league one of the best and stressing his motivation after limited minutes last season. He acknowledged the team must tighten up defensively after conceding the most goals in the previous campaign, adding he feels motivation rather than pressure over expectations at centre-back.
Comfortable on either side of central defence, he left the decision to Matarazzo. He also revealed a conversation with Xabi Alonso, who spoke of the city, a family club and an impressive fanbase, and told him he would enjoy San Sebastián.
Fort said he knows the club’s style and philosophy and fully shares it, and that the project convinced him despite other interest this summer. He told his agents of his choice, noted his deal runs for five years for now, and described himself as an associative full-back who prefers attacking but will commit both ways.
The pair were struck by the atmosphere during their first visit to Anoeta on Saturday, with Fort highlighting supporters bouncing with their backs to the pitch and Sarr surprised by the celebrations. Sarr added that they are young, good and with potential, and that they have arrived to strengthen the team.
