Sassuolo have, according to Sacha Tavolieri, began negotiations with Westerlo over a potential transfer of USMNT defender Bryan Reynolds. The 24-year-old has been with Westerlo since 2022, having joined from another Serie A side in Roma. According to Tavolieri, Westerlo have asked for around €6m for Reynolds. Westerlo are not willing to let Reynolds join Sassuolo on loan with a purchase option, instead preferring that the USMNT defender joins the Serie A side permanently this January.

Reynolds, who has not played for the USMNT since 2023, began his career with FC Dallas. In 2021 he moved to Roma, who then loaned him out to Kortrijk after eight appearances. He made nine appearances for Kortrijk, a spell in which he impressed Westerlo. He joined Westerlo on loan for the 2022/2023 campaign and was a great success. As a result, Westerlo purchased Reynolds from Roma that summer. Since joining Westerlo permanently, the now former USMNT defender has played 95 times, scoring four goals and providing eight assists.

For Reynolds, a move to Serie A may well increase his chances of a return to the USMNT, although the World Cup this summer may be out of reach.
