Saudi football authorities have condemned offensive chants directed at Rúben Neves from the Al-Taawoun end during the Pro League meeting with Al-Hilal, calling them unacceptable.

Asharq Al-Awsat reports that the federation’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee opened an investigation on Sunday morning into the incident.

Al-Hilal has filed an official complaint with the federation over what it considered offensive collective chants from a section of the Al-Taawoun support aimed at the Portuguese midfielder.

Al-Taawoun also condemned the chanting, describing anything beyond legitimate support as an isolated act not representative of its supporters. The club praised their awareness and long-standing backing, and reaffirmed its refusal of abuse regardless of source or target.

In their joint statement, the federation and the league said exploiting personal tragedies to abuse or provoke has no place in Saudi football and contradicts the sport’s values and spirit. They added that committees monitored the incident as it happened and had begun regulatory measures under approved rules, with decisions to be announced once finalised.
