Al-Hilal said in a statement that a section of Al-Taawoun supporters directed offensive chants at Rúben Neves during the match. It called the behaviour unacceptable and contrary to sporting values and ethics.
The club rejects actions that target players or their families, or seek to cause personal offence. It underlined the need for a sporting environment built on respect and dignity for all participants.
Sporting rivalry, however intense, does not justify intruding on players’ personal or human circumstances, nor exploiting feelings of loss as a tool for provocation or abuse.
Al-Hilal has filed a complaint with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to safeguard the rights of the club and its players, and to ensure any violations are handled under established regulations.
There is confidence that the federation will take steps to protect the integrity of competition and promote respect and sportsmanship in Saudi stadiums. The incident has drawn international attention and risks negative repercussions that jar with the sector’s development and rising global profile.
