FC Barcelona have been linked with a number of potential new strikers to replace Robert Lewandowski as the no. 9 in the upcoming seasons. Among them is Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy.

The 29-year-old has been at the top of his game for the past couple of seasons and often slips under the radar in conversations about in-form strikers around the world. Guirassy has done very well for Dortmund.

According to Fichajes, Saudi Arabian clubs have accelerated their pursuit of Guirassy even as Barcelona continue to evaluate their options. The Catalan club is divided on the striker’s suitability with reference to their play style.

Guirassy is a physical box presence who knows where the back of the net is. However, he is not particularly adept with the ball at his feet and, at Barcelona, a striker is expected to do much more than score goals consistently.

Robert Lewandowski is often seen dropping deep to link play, and his hold-up play is a very underrated aspect of his game. Guirassy is also not as prolific a goalscorer as the 37-year-old has been.

Thus, Hansi Flick and the sporting department need to weigh the pros against the cons and decide whether they want to sign Guirassy as their no. 9 going forward. At this stage, it looks unlikely, and the Saudi clubs may be able to scoop him up sooner rather than later.
