Saúl Ñíguez lit up Flamengo’s Friday session at Ninho do Urubu with an Özil-style bounce shot over goalkeeper Andrew. According to Coluna Do Fla, the moment drew applause on the touchline and underlined his sharp form in recent sessions.
The technique, popularised by Mesut Özil, involves striking down on the ball so it rebounds and loops over a keeper, and is known as the Bounce Shot. The German made it a trademark during spells at Real Madrid and Arsenal after winning the World Cup in 2014.
Before facing Andrew, Saúl chipped Joaquín Freitas in a one-on-one, leaving the Argentine trailing. He then went through on goal and repeated the Özil method with his left foot to lift it over the keeper.
He later posted the clip on social media with comedic music, including a sexualised parody of Gusttavo Lima’s Balada, which jarred with the training footage.
His recent posts have gone viral for their use of explicit funk tracks, prompting light-hearted exchanges among team-mates. The midfielder has indicated he is close to stopping to focus on the rest of the season.
The September FIFA window ends on 06 October. Flamengo return against Santos at Vila Belmiro on 08 October at 19:30 Brasília time, in round 29 of the Brasileirão.
