Saúl Ñíguez will miss Flamengo’s meeting with Remo on Thursday 19 in the seventh round of the Brasileirão, as he continues recovery from left heel surgery.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the club could add him back to matchday squads after the March international window, which means he has a chance of returning to action in early April.
He had the operation in early January in Madrid to resolve pain that had affected his daily routine, and is now in the final stage of rehabilitation.
Saúl arrived at Flamengo in July 2025 after leaving Atlético de Madrid. Last season he featured in 24 matches and provided two assists.
During consultation, two paths were presented, surgery or conservative treatment. Flamengo’s head of medical, Fernando Sassaki, exchanged information with other specialists consulted by the player, and the final call was the midfielder’s, who opted for surgery.
He is following a physiotherapy programme and, in recent days, has resumed physical work and ball exercises, still within recommended limits.
