Saúl Ñíguez returned for Flamengo after a 10-match absence, coming on for Jorge Carrascal in the win over Mirassol at the Maracanã. Three weeks ago, O Globo reported he wanted to leave due to limited opportunities under Leonardo Jardim.

The Spaniard played 18 minutes, had nine touches and completed five passes. He won two duels, made two tackles and registered one ball recovery.

His previous outing was against Coritiba on 30 May, in the 17th round of the Brasileirão. He featured for 15 minutes for Erick Pulgar with the score at 3-0 to Flamengo.

He then missed 10 games without a diagnosed injury. The only physical issue noted was a bout of flu at half-time of one match, and the club gave no official medical explanation for the extended absence.

Flamengo announced his signing on 23 July 2025 as their first addition of the window, on a three-and-a-half-year deal to December 2028, after his departure from Atlético de Madrid.

Since joining he has made 34 appearances for the club, 10 of them this year, supplying three assists and no goals.

Against Mirassol, Erick Pulgar and Evertton Araújo were taken off early with pain. Flamengo have not released the test results, and if the pair are sidelined Saúl could feature again in the coming games.
