Sky Germany reports that SC Freiburg’s Merlin Röhl is a candidate to be called up to the German national team in the upcoming international breaks.
Röhl impressed Nagelsmann with his performances last season in what was his first full Bundesliga season. The 22-year-old is now a candidate to be called up to the national team. Röhl was also a regular feature for Germany’s under-21s last season.
The Potsdam native is also attracting interest from other clubs. The versatile midfielder is currently valued at €12m by transfermarkt while the length of his current contract at Freiburg is unknown.
The next international break will likely see a new group of players being given a chance at international level after the retirements of the likes of Thomas Müller and Toni Kroos while the futures of Ilkay Gündogan and Manuel Neuer are still uncertain.
Some new faces could be VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller, who has previously been reported as a candidate to be called up, as well as Brajan Gruda and Rocco Reitz who both helped Germany in their preparation for EURO 2024.
Germany’s next set of games will be the Nations League which starts in September and runs until November. In their group, they will face Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina and rivals Netherlands.
