Schalke 04 are in talks to sign Nantes defender Fabien Centonze (28).
Sky Germany have confirmed the report originating from Le Parisien, with Schalke wanting to sign the Frenchman on an initial six-month loan deal. Although no final decision as of yet, Marc Wilmots is pushing to sign Centonze as he looks to strengthen Schalke’s defence, which has conceded 41 goals in the 2. Bundesliga this season, the most of any team.
Centonze has played just 117 minutes across five games for Nantes this season. Since joining Nantes from Metz in September 2022, the right-back has played 35 games across all competitions.
The Frenchman would add vital experience to an already depleted Schalke squad due to various injuries. With the club sitting 15th and on level points with Hansa Rostock, who occupy 17th, it’s imperative that S04 improve their squad heading into the final months of the season.
With just hours remaining of the transfer window, Centonze would become Schalke’s second signing in January after they secured the return of Darko Churlinov.
