Schalke 04 provide injury update on Edin Džeko

2. Bundesliga leaders Schalke 04 were dealt a major blow on Tuesday as their star striker Edin Džeko suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina in a World Cup qualifier against Italy.

The Gelsenkirchen club announced on Wednesday that the 40-year-old striker is undergoing thorough examinations on his shoulder, with further tests planned once he returns to Germany.

The injury will keep Džeko out of at least Schalke 04’s upcoming match against Karlsruher SC.

Džeko has been a major difference-maker for the Royal Blues since joining in the winter transfer window, scoring six goals in eight games in Germany’s second division so far.

His contract expires at the end of the season.
