Schalke 04’s ultras have urged supporters to raise the volume in the stands to jolt the mood during a five-match winless spell. The promotion chasers trail SV Darmstadt 98 by one point after 21 games.
According to BuLi News, the hardcore fan group issued a statement noting lethargy and a lack of drive in both home and away sections even before the winter break. They stressed the coach, staff and squad are a united front, that work continues, and that the club’s sporting management is pursuing sustainable ideas and objectives.
The ultras argued the signs remain positive and see little reason the stands should not be loud, emotional and increasingly fervent. However, they believe rising nerves have curbed singing in recent weeks.
They said anxiety sets in when Schalke lead, with fear of an equaliser, and when they trail, with doubts about drawing level. That silence, they warned, reduces the chance to influence events on the pitch in their favour.
Responsibility, they added, lies with everyone in the stands to forge an atmosphere that allows for nothing but a Schalke victory. They suggested such backing might even help deliver promotion by season’s end.
Schalke visit Holstein Kiel at 13:30 CET on Sunday.
