Schlotterbeck joins Southampton on three-year deal | OneFootball

Southampton have completed the permanent signing of 29-year-old defender Keven Schlotterbeck on a three-year contract from FC Augsburg, where he captained the side and was a Bundesliga regular.

Daily Echo reports that the fee is around £3 million.

Schlotterbeck said he is pleased to join, has big ambitions and wants to win games this year, adding that his football outlook aligns with the club and he is ready to attack the Championship season.

Group sporting director Johannes Spors said the club targeted a left-footed centre-back and believes Schlotterbeck brings experience, strong physical and technical qualities, and leadership.

Older brother of Borussia Dortmund and Germany defender Nico, this is his first move outside his homeland. He has 139 Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg, Bochum, Freiburg and Union Berlin.

He played 26 times for Augsburg last season and captained them in a 2-0 German Cup win at Energie Cottbus on the opening weekend.

He has been registered in time to be in contention for a debut tomorrow in their Championship home match against Millwall. The German becomes the sixth addition to Tonda Eckert's squad this summer. Saints have until 11pm on Tuesday to complete any remaining business.

Meanwhile, Joshua Quarshie has joined Austrian champions Sturm Graz on loan, and talks continue with Aston Villa over Taylor Harwood-Bellis. Saints are also expected to sign former captain and academy product James Ward-Prowse from West Ham United.
