Nico Schlotterbeck described Dortmund’s 2–3 loss to Bayern Munich as an all-out effort from the team, despite coming up just short in the Klassiker.
“That was an all-in game for us. We tried everything and threw ourselves fully into it - there’s nothing to blame us for. It’s very unfortunate,” Schlotterbeck said.
Reflecting on the result, he admitted the difference was simple: “In the end, Bayern just scored one more goal than us, that’s why we lost.”
Schlotterbeck also commented on Dortmund’s opening goal, scored from a set piece. “We score a lot from standards lately. I think it was a nice goal."
About the intense scene in the first half involving Josip Stanišić, Schlotterbeck said: "I felt I got to the ball first and then hit him. It looks very unlucky and it was by mistake,” he explained.
About the penalty scene: “I think I didn’t hit him much, just a little on the shin - very light contact. You don’t need a yellow card for that. Whether it was a penalty is a different decision. I fell for Stanišić’s feint, which is very frustrating. Today just didn’t go our way.”
Schlotterbeck’s comments underline the fine margins that decided this Klassiker. Despite Dortmund’s passion, intensity, and commitment, Bayern managed to edge a dramatic contest, leaving Schlotterbeck and his teammates rueing missed opportunities and controversial moments.
