It wasn't a vintage performance from Scotland but they managed a 2-1 win over Belarus to mean they are just two wins away from a place in the World Cup.
Belarus have been the whipping boys of Group C, having lost all of their games including 5-1 to Greece and 6-0 to Denmark last time out.
The visitors started brightly at Hampden Park when Jack Hendry found Che Adams who did well to find space before firing past goalkeeper Fedor Lapoukhov. The goal had initially been ruled out by the assistant referee but VAR intervened to put the home side ahead.
Scotland couldn't build on that early goal even though Ben Gannon-Doak caused the Belarusian defence problems with his direct running.
The second half was mostly punctured by VAR checks. Notably a potential penalty that wasn't given for Scotland due to a handball in the build up.
Not long after that, Belarus thought they had an equaliser only for VAR to intervene with Yevgeniy Yablonskiy penalised in the build-up for a foul on Scott McTominay.
McTominay wasn't at his best but did pop up with what turned out to be the decisive goal in the 84th minute. It was a good job he did too as Gleb Kuchko reduced the deficit in stoppage time.
The home side eventually held on to a win, which was the most important thing of all even if this was not a World Cup-calibre display.
Scotland now top the group after second-place Denmark taking on Greece where a win for the Danes will guarantee the Scots a play-off place at least.
