Sébastien Joseph has been sacked as AS Saint-Étienne's women's head coach after alleged abusive remarks directed at the referee following the 0-4 loss at Lyon.
The club said in a statement that, after disciplinary proceedings opened on 11 February, it had ended its contract with Joseph on Sunday.
Joseph had been suspended on a precautionary basis and called to a meeting ahead of potential dismissal after the defeat at Lyon on Sunday 8 February.
He is said to have made violent remarks towards the referee following the match, with the incident recorded in two separate reports, one by the referee and another by the match delegate, Philippe Vital, who also witnessed it.
Joseph had led the women's first team since June 2025. Assistant coach Tom Bouvier will take charge of Les Vertes until a new head coach is appointed.
