Barring a surprise, Rennes plan to hand reserve coach Sébastien Tambouret the reins for Friday’s match against PSG at 19:00, while talks continue over Franck Haise replacing Habib Beye.
According to L'Équipe, Beye was placed under a dismissal procedure on Monday, with Tambouret, 49, stepping in. The reunion comes two months after a 0-5 at the Parc des Princes and a run of four defeats.
Tambouret is expected to oversee a full week of preparation and take the bench against Paris, before the likely arrival of the former Nice coach, who would start at Auxerre on 22 February. He also led a 0-2 defeat to Toulouse on 10 November 2024, handing Kader Meïté his senior debut.
A former centre-back in the amateur ranks and D2, he joined Rennes in 2023 to lead the U19s after roles at Sedan, Auxerre, Metz and Marseille. He later managed Sedan in N2 and was assistant at Valenciennes in L2 in 2022-2023.
Rennes host the European champions, fresh from putting five past Marseille. The path appears set for Haise, who coached Rennes youth from 2006 to 2012, although alternatives include Alexandre Dujeux and Laurent Blanc. Haise has been free since 28 December after leaving Nice.
