INEOS-owned Lausanne-Sport are reportedly working hard to sign Manchester United starlet Sekou Kone on loan this month, but they face competition from a Belgian club.
Signed from Guidars FC in August 2024, United have been very careful with Kone’s development as they seek to gently reel him into English football and his new surroundings.
The talented midfielder has primarily featured for the Under-21s, where he has excelled and demonstrated his sky-high potential. He has repeatedly trained with the United first team and even featured for the club during the post-season tour of Asia.
The next logical step for Kone is to integrate into United’s senior squad. However, with the team out of European competition, opportunities for meaningful minutes will likely be scarce.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that a January loan exit for Kone is a possibility. He has previously been linked to Lausanne-Sport and now, an update on that front has been provided.
According to Sam Cohen of GIVEMESPORT, Lausanne-Sport are actively exploring how to get a January loan transfer for Kone over the line. The Swiss outfit admire Kone and believe he would be an immense addition to their ranks. However, an unnamed Belgian club has also asked about the 19-year-old’s availability.
GIVEMESPORT contend, “Koné’s situation is being closely monitored behind the scenes, with his development pathway a key factor in discussions. Those close to the player believe a temporary move could offer valuable first-team minutes, while suitors see an opportunity to add energy and athleticism without committing to a permanent deal at this stage.”
“Lausanne-Sport are pushing strongly to secure the services of Sékou Koné once their transfer window opens later this month, according to GMS sources.”
On Laussane-Sport’s pursuit, the report claims that their interest is “concrete” and “internal discussions” over a loan swoop are ongoing.
Laussane-Sport executives are evaluating the terms and framework of a move as well as planning Kone’s optimal role within the team.
Cohen further points out, “GIVEMESPORT has been told that one unnamed club in Belgium are also keen on signing Koné, described as ‘one of the most promising players’, on a loan deal. While details remain limited, the Belgian side have made enquiries and are exploring whether a temporary move would be feasible once their window opens.”
It’s understood that neither Laussane-Sport nor the unnamed Belgian club are advanced. At the moment, both suitors are just collecting information with a view to making a decision soon.
Meanwhile, Amorim and his players are next in action on Sunday when they go away to Leeds United.
