Seleção wrap up preparations for the CONMEBOL U20

Coach Juninho and his staff made the final adjustments this Wednesday (19) to the team that will compete in the CONMEBOL U-20. Brazil’s beach soccer national team wrapped up its work on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro in the morning, as all the players underwent recovery procedures with the medical department in the afternoon.

CBF’s technical coordinator for beach soccer national teams, Chicão Castelo Branco, approved of the training period in Rio and stressed the importance of applying the methodology developed by the beach soccer coaching staffs during the work.

“We are continuing the workshop we held at Granja Comary last month, and we focused on standardizing all processes, the methodological side of the work. The U-20 national team’s coaching staff managed to do an excellent job in line with the methodology that strengthens the DNA of Brazilian beach soccer. We brought in a top-level structure, just as we have with the senior national team, and the boys really gave their all in training. We’re going with a very strong, cohesive group, and I believe we’re going to have a good South American tournament,” he said.

Someone who agrees with Chicão is team captain Carlos, the team’s defender. One of the most experienced players in the squad, he believes that with unity and a lot of determination on the field, the team can go far.

“I believe that, from the first day we reported here, even the new boys who are just arriving now, everyone is very confident. We’ve been building a lot of confidence, we hold our internal meetings, which are very important for us to arrive at the competition united. It’s what I’ve always said from the beginning: unity will make us go far in the competition. Responsibility, attitude—those are the things that will make us arrive well and strong for the tournament,” said the No. 8.

Making his debut with the Seleção, Caio from Rio Grande do Norte did not hide his happiness at receiving the first call-up of his career. The intense and more demanding training sessions with the national team have not lessened his motivation to arrive flying for the competition in Peru.

“I was playing in Italy when I got the call that I had been selected. It was pure joy. I immediately called my parents and then Professor Betão, from Bahia, who is a guy who helped me a lot. I finished my matches there in Italy and started training harder when I returned to Natal, so I could come here and handle training twice a day, which I wasn’t used to doing daily. But with a lot of grit and determination, everything worked out. We’re going to arrive in good shape for the tournament and, God willing, win the title,” he concluded.
