Leading Liverpool journalist James Pearce strongly criticized Mohamed Salah following the forward’s explosive post match remarks after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

Writing on The Athletic on Sunday, Pearce described Salah’s seven and half minute tirade as “selfish”, “poorly timed” & “detached from reality.”

Salah who has been benched for three consecutive Premier League match expressed frustration with the club, the manager & the media in what has become one of the most controversial interviews of his Liverpool career.

Pearce responded bluntly:

“Yes.. Salah watches Ibrahima Konate make mistake after mistake & Cody Gakpo start every week but that does not justify his attack on the club and Arne Slot. He knows the weight of his words.. this was selfish & unnecessary negativity.”

Pearce questioned Salah’s timing arguing the Liverpool dressing room needed stability rather than chaos:

“Was it really so difficult to wait until AFCON next week instead of airing the dirty laundry like this?”

The journalist was especially critical of Salah’s claim that he should not have to fight for his place anymore:

“Salah says he doesn’t know why this is happening to him and that he shouldn’t have to fight for his position. That shows a lack of self awareness. The reality is: when Slot dropped him, there wasn’t much opposition.”

Pearce pointed to Salah’s current production (5 goal and 3 assist in the league) and argued the Egyptian is not delivering the performances expected of a player in his bracket:

“Opponents target Liverpool through the spaces he leaves and he hasn’t been dangerous. Numbers don’t help his argument.”

Pearce concluded by acknowledging Salah’s legendary status:

“He produced one of the greatest individual seasons in English football history last year with 34 goals, 23 assists and he is Liverpool icon. But that does not mean he is treated unfairly. He earns more than £400000 a week.”
