Common sense has prevailed, Spain Under-19 coach Paco Gallardo has released Selton from his call-up, a timely boost for Valverde before Tuesday’s Copa tie at Cultural Leonesa.

As reported by as.com, Selton had been due to report to Spain Under-19 today for Wednesday’s friendly against Italy, which would have ruled him out of the cup fixture. Quintero and Oyono have been called by the Under-18s.

Valverde is slowly getting injured players back. Yuri is the first to return. Laporte still needs more weeks to fully recover from the muscle problem that has sidelined him for a month, while Prados, Egiluz and Sannadi are long-term absentees and Vesga has lower-back discomfort.

To cover the gaps, Valverde took youngsters Monreal, Santos and Eder García to the Supercopa in Jeddah. Monreal has featured in recent squads amid a shortage of centre-backs, and Santos, a goalkeeper, and Eder García, a midfielder, started in the B team’s 1-0 win in Ferrol in Primera Federación on Saturday.

After the León tie, the squad will rest on Wednesday, then work on Thursday and Friday for Saturday’s visit to Mallorca, the 20th round and the first of the second half of the season.
