Sergio Camello lambasted the officiating and the direction of the sport after Rayo Vallecano’s 3-3 draw with Real Sociedad on Sunday, a match in which VAR chalked off two Rayo goals.

According to L'Équipe, the 25-year-old striker, who opened the scoring for the Madrid club, was incensed by decisions that shaped the game.

VAR ruled out a Pedro Diaz strike in the 69th minute, then seven minutes later awarded Real Sociedad a penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted in the 76th.

“Football was beautiful when it was football. When I was a child it was different. What it is becoming, or what the executives want it to become, is shit. Before, footballers were the protagonists, and now they are not,” he said.

“VAR goes back to review a debatable action. It is neither a penalty nor a chance. The stakes are huge. We boast about having the best, most prestigious league, and this is what we endure,” he added. Camello is scheduled to face Strasbourg in the Europa Conference League semi-finals on Thursday.
