Sérgio Conceição marked the first anniversary of Pinto da Costa’s death with a heartfelt tribute. The Al Ittihad coach in Saudi Arabia said in an Instagram post that he remains profoundly grateful to Porto’s historic president.

The tribute portrayed the former leader as having shaped his career and life, the most decorated president in football history and the architect of Porto’s enduring triumphs.

Conceição reflected on a personal bond, calling Pinto da Costa a friend and guide, and thanking him for opportunities, timely words, encouraging looks and instructive silences.

Some decisions define a career, with 27 May 2017 cited as the date that changed his path, which he regards as the best professional decision of his life.

He still seeks Pinto da Costa’s counsel, imagines what he would say and, in some way, continues to hear him. He remembers him with boundless gratitude and a longing that does not fade. The message closed by honouring president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa.

Conceição managed Porto from 2017/18 to 2023/24.
