Serhou Guirassy release clause lapses, Dortmund now control fee

Serhou Guirassy’s release clause at Borussia Dortmund expired last night at midnight, placing the club in charge of his next steps. The forward has long been linked with a move.

According to BuLi News, the clause, set at just under €40m, could only be triggered by a select group of leading clubs.

That group comprised Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, Manchester United and Arsenal. None of them moved to activate the buyout for the 30-year-old.

This contrasted with Fenerbahce’s strong courtship in Istanbul, which the Guinean ultimately declined.

A departure has not been ruled out, but any transfer fee is now freely negotiable with all interested clubs.
