Juventus produced a dominant display on match-day four of the Serie A Femminile season. They swept past Fiorentina to maintain their perfect start and end their opponent’s 100 percent record. Meanwhile, Inter kept their unbeaten streak intact with a successful away game against Sassuolo.
As well as those two matches, we have also rounded up all the action from the three other games that took place on match-day four.
Sampdoria made a fast start to Saturday’s away meeting, taking a sixth-minute lead thanks to an own goal. In an attempt to deal with a dangerous cross, Mina Bergersen could only divert the ball past Roberta Aprile, who was unable to spare her teammate’s blushes. Fortunately for Como, they were able to restore parity before the half-time interval. A low cross from the right flank found its way to Nadine Nischler, who tucked the ball home with her left foot.
With neither side able to find a winner in the second period, Como and Sampdoria ultimately had to be content with a share of the spoils.
Annamaria Serturini broke the deadlock in the 38th minute to get Inter up and running in Saturday’s away clash. The 26-year-old fired home after being teed up by Elisa Polli’s neat backheel. Sassuolo hit back in the opening stages of the second period thanks to Kassandra Missipo’s first goal of the season. The Belgium international rifled a fierce left-foot strike into the roof of the net to restore parity at the Stadio Enzo Ricci.
However, Sassuolo were level for just nine minutes before Tessa Wullaert restored Inter’s slender advantage. The 31-year-old poked the ball past the onrushing Solene Durand to find the net in a third consecutive game.
Substitute Lina Magull made sure of the three points in rather fortuitous circumstances. An attempted clearance struck Magull and bounced into the Sassuolo net. The win has left Inter in second place and two points adrift of leaders Juventus.
Fresh from securing their place in the Champions League group stage, Roma produced a dominant first half display to clinch all three points in Sunday’s Serie A Femminile meeting with Napoli. Manuela Giugliano tapped the ball home from close range to open the scoring in the 20th minute. Evelyne Viens then fired the ball in off the far post to net her third league goal of the season.
There was still plenty of time left in the first period for Giugliano to register her second and Roma’s third goal of the afternoon. Napoli were unable to mount a fightback, but they did manage to net a late consolation. Michela Giordano thumped a left-foot shot past Camelia Ceasar to net her first goal as a Napoli player.
Lazio drew first blood in Sunday’s away clash with Milan. Noemi Visentin drilled the ball in off the crossbar to break the deadlock in the 41st minute. However, Milan produced a swift response through Julie Piga, who headed home from Marta Mascarello’s deep free-kick.
With the score level at the break, former Milan forward Martina Piemonte was given the opportunity to restore Lazio’s advantage after Piga brought down Visentin in the box. However, Piemonte saw her penalty superbly saved by the outstretched Laura Giuliani. Nikola Karczewska then came off the bench to net an 81st-minute winner. The forward knocked home the rebound after seeing her initial header saved by Sara Cetinja.
After beating Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League qualifying, Juventus returned to league action with a commanding display against Fiorentina. The hosts produced a well-worked free-kick routine to open the scoring in the first period. Arianna Caruso made a run from the back post to sweep the ball home from Eva Schatzer’s pass.
Amalie Vangsgaard then produced a moment of magic in the second period, rifling an unstoppable long-range strike past Cecilie Fiskerstrand. Substitute Paulina Krumbiegel netted a third to dash any hopes of a Fiorentina fightback. There was also time left for Martina Rosucci to get her name on the scoresheet to wrap up an impressive victory.
