Serie A | Genoa 1-1 Pisa: A point each makes nobody happy

Article image:Serie A | Genoa 1-1 Pisa: A point each makes nobody happy

Neither Genoa nor Pisa will be entirely content with a point in this relegation tussle, as Mehdi Leris replied to the Lorenzo Colombo curler.

This was a big relegation battle, with Daniele De Rossi coming off three consecutive defeats to Inter, Atalanta and Roma. Nicola Leali returned from suspension, but Junior Messias, Albert Gronbaek and Maxwel Cornet were injured, with Jean Onana at AFCON. Pisa had just one victory all season, missing Juan Cuadrado, Calvin Stengs and on international duty Ebeneezer Akinsanmiro, as Alberto Gilardino faced his old club.

Mehdi Leris saw his early angled drive skim the far post from the edge of the box, while Vitinha’s curler tested goalkeeper Adrian Semper.

Genoa opened the scoring when Lorenzo Colombo gathered outside the area and hit a left-foot screamer into the far bottom corner.

Pisa were unlucky not to equalise on 33 minutes when Nicola Leali pushed a Leris header onto the crossbar from Samuele Angori’s cross.

The visitors equalised in chaotic circumstances, as Leali dropped the Angori free kick in a crowd, allowing Leris to turn in the loose ball. Genoa wanted a foul given on their goalkeeper, but he crashed into teammate Johan Vasquez.

Semper got down for a sensational one-handed save on the line to keep out the Morten Thorsby glancing header.
