Inter’s Elisa Polli scored a 94th-minute acrobatic volley to take all three points off Como on Serie A match-day 11. Meanwhile, reigning champions Juventus were among three teams that claimed comfortable victories.
Here’s how the latest round of results in Italy’s top flight unfolded and what it means for the order of the table.
Inter came from behind on two occasions to claim all three points in their away meeting with Como. Zara Kramžar conjured up a ferocious strike from distance to give the hosts a narrow lead at the break.
Inter’s Tessa Wullaert prodded home an equaliser within three minutes of the restart, only for Kramžar to restore Como’s advantage shortly before the hour mark. The 20-year-old let fly from just inside the Inter half after spotting Cecilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir’s off her line, sending the long-range shot over the goalkeeper’s head and into the awaiting net.
Unfortunately for Kramžar, her extraordinary brace proved to be in vain as Inter turned the game in their favour. Half-time substitute Haley Bugeja levelled the scoreline with her fifth Serie A goal of the season, before Elisa Polli completed the dramatic turnaround in stoppage time. The forward produced a magnificent acrobatic effort from Benedetta Glionna’s lofted cross, snatching all three points to leave her team in second spot.
Juventus moved into third spot with a commanding display against Parma. Experienced attacker Barbara Bonansea headed home her first league goal of the season to open the scoring. Denmark international Amalie Vangsgaard made it two, before Emma Godo fired a low free-kick out of Camelia Ceasar’s reach. Parma have now gone nine consecutive Serie A games without a win, leaving them in 10th spot and just a point above the relegation spot.
Fiorentina experienced a forgettable outing in Saturday’s away clash with Lazio. Emma Severini saw her seventh-minute spot-kick saved by Francesca Durante, who made two further quickfire stops to thwart the penalty taker and Madelen Janogy. Fiorentina were made to rue that passage of play when Lazio scored two goals in seven minutes. Eleonora Goldoni headed in from a deep cross, before she turned provider for Martina Piemonte to drive a low shot into the bottom corner.
Lazio’s two-goal lead at the break turned into a 3-0 win after Filippa Cumark inadvertently diverted the ball into the net in her effort to deal with a cross. The result represented Lazio’s fourth win in six home league games this season.
Like Juventus and Lazio, AC Milan also ran out 3-0 winners on match-day 11. Thea Kyvåg created Milan’s opener in Sunday’s meeting with Ternana, cleverly working the space to drive the ball across for Kayleigh van Dooren to slide home. Van Dooren grabbed her second of the game in the 80th minute, shortly before Kyvåg completed the win with her first Serie A goal.
Roma maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the table with a narrow win over relegation-threatened Genoa. Manuela Giugliano scored the game’s only goal on the stroke of half time. The Roma star took aim from distance, drilling a low shot beyond the diving Camilla Forcinella. As a result of the defeat, 11th-placed Genoa have now gone six consecutive league games without a win.
Meanwhile, Napoli ended their three-game winless league run with a successful away outing against Sassuolo. Emma Veletanlic’s first Serie A goal and a Marija Banušić penalty sealed a 2-0 victory for the visitors. Napoli finished the matchday in seventh and just three points adrift from the top three, while Sassuolo are down in ninth and only two points clear of the relegation spot.
Inter are currently the Serie A’s top scorers, having scored 26 goals in 11 matches — two more than league leaders Roma.
Inter’s away clash will produce the top three goals of the match-day. Polli’s winner was eye-catching, and Kramžar’s first was pure brilliance. But we have to give the nod to the Slovenian’s second effort of a thrilling contest. The 20-year-old showed great awareness to spot the goalkeeper off her line and then match that vision with the perfect shot from an incredible distance.
Lazio 3-0 Fiorentina
AC Milan 3-0 Ternana
Genoa 0-1 Roma
Sassuolo 0-2 Napoli
Como 2-3 Inter
Juventus 3-0 Parma
