Juventus suffered a major setback in their Serie A title defence after they fell to a 2-1 defeat in Sunday’s away clash with Inter.

Meanwhile, Roma extended their lead at the top with a hard-fought victory over Sassuolo on Serie A match-day 10. Here’s how all the latest action in Italy’s top flight unfolded.

Inter prevail in derby d’Italia

Inter came from behind to take all three points off Juventus in Sunday’s derby d’Italia. Cecilia Salvai headed in from a deep corner to give the visitors a fourth-minute lead. However, Inter produced a swift reply through Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir. The hosts won possession back in the Juventus half, before Tessa Wullaert played a neat pass for Vilhjálmsdóttir to collect and slide past Daniëlle de Jong.

Wullaert grabbed another assist for Inter’s second. The Belgium international delivered an inch-perfect corner for Marija Milinković to head home in the 35th minute. The defender’s second goal in three games proved to be the final goal of the afternoon, as Inter stood firm to claim three precious points. The win moved the home side into second spot and leaves Juventus down in fourth.

Corelli powers Roma to victory

Roma extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table to seven points with a narrow home victory over Sassuolo. Manuela Giugliano produced a driven first-time finish from Frederikke Thøgersen’s low cross to put Roma ahead within three minutes of the first whistle. Sassuolo responded through Lana Clelland, who steered a header home from Kassandra Missipo’s lofted cross. The visitors did their utmost to hold on to a point, but Alice Corelli ultimately had other ideas. The Roma forward thumped a thunderous volley past Solene Durand to net her fifth Serie A goal of the season and clinch all three points for the title hopefuls.

Ternana seal maiden home win

Ternana claimed their first Serie A home victory of the season at the fifth time of asking. The hosts looked set to play out a goalless draw with Lazio until Cimo Giada Pellegrino netted a 90th-minute winner. The Roma loanee drilled a low shot into the far corner after latching onto Maria Petrara’s perfectly-weighted pass. Matters got worse for Lazio when Nikola Karczewska was sent off for raising her hands to Eleonara Pacioni in response to being pulled back by the Ternana defender. Crucially for Ternana, the win moves them level on points with 11th-placed Genoa in their battle to remain in the top flight.

Late Geirsdóttir leveller frustrates Fiorentina

Fiorentina broke the deadlock in the first-half stoppage time of Saturday’s home meeting with Genoa. Emma Severini calmly slotted home from the penalty spot after Heidi Giles was penalised for a handball. The hosts looked set to clinch the spoils until Genoa debutant Birta Georgsdóttir netted a 91st-minute equaliser. The January addition chopped the ball back onto her right foot before stroking it beyond Cecilie Fiskerstrand to rescue a point for her side.

Two goalless draws underwhelm on Serie A match-day 10

AC Milan have now just one of their previous five league matches after playing out a goalless draw with Parma at the weekend. In truth, Parma looked the most likely to break the deadlock, registering five shots on target to Milan’s solitary effort on goal.

There was another goalless draw in Saturday’s clash between Napoli and Como. Astrid Gilardi made five saves during the contest to keep Napoli at bay, keeping her third clean sheet in five away league matches.

Did you know?

Juventus have mustered just five points from their five Serie A games this season. Only Ternana, Parma and Genoa have picked up fewer points on their travels in the top flight.
