Set For Medical – Celtic Star Closing In On Exit | OneFootball

Arne Engels is set to undergo a medical with West Ham United ahead of joining the Hammers from Celtic, according to journalist Alex Crook.

Celtic moved to bring in a replacement for Engels on Thursday, snapping up promising German midfielder Mika Baur from Paderborn.

Paderborn had been keen to keep hold of Baur, but with the midfielder having entered the final year of his contract chose to cash in.

The move has allowed the door to be opened for Engels, who is now poised to join West Ham.

The Hammers have agreed a fee with Celtic, paying over £20m to take Engels to the London Stadium and are now advancing quickly to seal the deal.

Engels is now set to undergo a medical with West Ham and then if he comes through the checks will be able to sign a contract with the Hammers.

Losing Engels is a blow for Celtic, but it has been a possibility all summer and landing Baur softens the impact of the Belgian’s exit.

Engels, who changed agents earlier this summer, will now be looking to kick on with his career in England and help West Ham win promotion straight back to the Premier League.

He will also hope that the switch can boost him at international level, where he was overlooked by Belgium for the World Cup.

Celtic meanwhile are continuing to work in the transfer market and are closing in on young left-back Landon Emenalo.

The Bhoys have been looking for cover for Kieran Tierney after deciding not to make Marcelo Saracchi’s loan spell permanent.

Emenalo, 18, is expected to join from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal and has already visited Celtic to look around the facilities.

The Bhoys have been busy in the market in recent weeks as they step up preparations for their Champions League playoff round clash.

Celtic have been drawn to face Austrian side LASK Linz over two legs, with the first leg coming on 19th August.
