FC Bayern is kicking off the new Bundesliga season with high ambitions. After winning the double last season, the Munich team aims to further solidify its domestic dominance. The record champion has its sights set not only on another league title but also on a historic milestone.

FC Bayern’s goals for the upcoming season are clear: win titles and break records—the more, the better. The club itself made this ambition clear in the season preview published on its website.

The 26/27 season’s motto is: “Records are meant to be broken.” One record in particular—linked to winning the German championship—could prove especially interesting.

With another Bundesliga title, the record-holding champions could catch up to Real Madrid and Juventus Turin. With 36 national championships each, both clubs are currently tied for first place on the list of the most successful clubs in Europe’s top five leagues.

It would be Bayern’s 36th Bundesliga title. This would put the Munich club on par with two of Europe’s most storied clubs. In the future, the team could then set its sights on the global record held by Glasgow Rangers. The Scottish club has 55 national championships to its credit.

It’s clear that, following last season’s double, Munich aims to cement its national dominance in the coming season as well.

Coach Vincent Kompany also knows that this won’t be a walk in the park: “It’s difficult to get better—it’s not just about the trophies we’ve won, but also about the number of goals and games we’ve won. It’s possible, but difficult,” the Bayern coach said recently.

In addition to domestic titles, winning the Champions League trophy is also a major goal for the upcoming season: “Right now, I’d say our goal is to win the Champions League—there’s no doubt about that,” Kompany explained.

More records in sight

In addition to their 36th Bundesliga title, Bayern could add more records to their list in the upcoming season. After setting the record for the most goals in a single season last season, the team could now also break the record for the most goals in a calendar year.

That record currently stands at 116 goals and dates back to 2021. To break it, Kompany’s team would need to score an average of 3.6 goals in their next 14 league games.

Another goal could be the points record from 2013. Back then, Bayern earned 91 points.
