Sevilla consider auction for Oso amid contract impasse

Sevilla are prepared to entertain an auction for Joaquín Martínez Gauna, Oso, if renewal talks do not move forward. The left wing-back is contracted until June 2027 with a 20 million euro release clause, and the club are reluctant to overreach financially.

According to AS, Sevilla have been working on an extension, including an improved clause, but will not force the issue. Interest has surfaced across Europe, with Real Sociedad, Fiorentina and Strasbourg among the suitors, though no approach has advanced. Sevilla will not accept minimal bids.

Oso, 23, has toughened his stance on staying. He joined from Málaga’s youth ranks in 2022 and signed a three-year renewal in 2024, which for now is proving insufficient.

Problems on the left flank saw Matías Almeyda move him up to the first team. After a stop-start introduction he settled, finishing last season with 21 LaLiga appearances, two goals and three assists.

Born in Torrevieja to Argentine parents, he has made clear in recent months that he favours Argentina over Spain. Lionel Scaloni has acknowledged they have been tracking him. How he develops, whether at Sevilla or elsewhere, will shape his chances of realising that international ambition.
