Sevilla are continuing to rebuild under new manager Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta. Four signings (Chidera Ejuke, Peque Fernandez, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Saul Niguez) have been made, but many more are desired – sporting director Victor Orta will be tasked with finding the right players.
Someone that Sevilla have shown interest in over the last few months is Sergio Arribas. Los Nervionenses would have hoped that Almeria’s relegation from La Liga at the end of the season would reduce the 22-year-old’s asking price, but unfortunately for them, it has not.
According to Diario AS, Almeria are asking for €20m in order to sell Arribas, who scored nine goals and registered 13 assists in La Liga last season. This figure is so high partly because Real Madrid would be due 50% of the transfer fee received by the Andalusians, as a result of the agreement between the two clubs last summer.
Sevilla simply cannot afford that amount, especially given their ongoing financial woes. It would be a surprise if Almeria accepted any offer for Arribas this summer, meaning that he will surely stay for the season in Segunda.
