According to AS, Shakira has included Kubo in the video for Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 World Cup.

The Japan international has come through his most difficult season at Real Sociedad. The team struggled early, with poor results and low confidence, and the switch from Imanol Alguacil to Sergio Francisco was fraught, the new coach dismissed in December.

Pellegrino Matarazzo arrived and La Real recovered, winning the Copa del Rey and claiming a Europa League place. Kubo picked up a January injury that sidelined him for several games, and he never rediscovered peak form in the run-in.

Despite that, he is one of four Real Sociedad players bound for the World Cup, not counting Duje Caleta-Car, whose exit was confirmed this week. The other call-ups are Mikel Oyarzabal, Gonçalo Guedes and Luka Sucic, while Jon Martín, Sergio Gómez and Beñat Turrientes will form a pre-tournament support group.

In the video Kubo appears in streetwear, wearing a blue T-shirt in Japan’s colours, and when Japan are named he is shown with the message "Thank you Shakira". Fellow stars featured include Mbappé, Messi, Vinicius, Haaland, Rodri, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and Musiala, with tributes to Pelé and Maradona, and Kaká also appearing.

The 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada starts on 11 June and runs to 19 July. Japan face Netherlands, Tunisia and Sweden in their group, opening on 14 June at 22:00.
