Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw paid tribute to her City team-mates after becoming the Club’s first women’s player to score 100 goals.

The Jamaican made history with her first strike in a 6-1 win over Aston Villa but finished the match with four goals to her name as City made it ten WSL victories in a row.

Shaw leads the way in the WSL Golden Boot race with 12 goals in 11 matches, more than double that of her nearest rival at the halfway point in the season.

But despite the forward’s remarkable individual numbers, Bunny insisted her team-mates deserve tremendous credit for their role in her century of strikes.

“I approach each game the same, trying to help the team, trying to score, get an early goal,” she said.

“Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t but once I got the first, I knew I was going to keep pushing, the girls knew and kept giving me the ball.

“For me, it’s a team, I always credit the team because they’re the ones that go out there with me, battle with me, fight with me and encourage me.

“When I’m low they’re with me and when I’m at my highest they are as well. I have to credit the team as well.”

Shaw admits that she was aware of her rapidly approaching milestone ahead of the game, and was delighted to end that talk early on at the Joie Stadium.

The Villans had perhaps been the better side until the Jamaican stroked home Vivianne Miedema’s cross on 37 minutes, with a second following in first half stoppage time.

Shaw’s brace was complemented by goals from Aoba Fujino and Miedema to set the seal on an emphatic victory over a side who’d taken points off both Arsenal and Manchester United on their travels this season.

She added: “It’s a really good feeling and a big milestone for me. If you’d told me I’d have scored four goals I’ve have said no!

“But for me, coming into the game I knew if I scored, I achieved this milestone, so I was hungry and confident going out there.

“The players said they’d try their best to get me to 100, so it was a really good feeling.”
